Well, we finally decided to get serious about potty training Hannah and I don't think it's such a safe endeavor for a very pregnant mom, or her child. We started trying a couple of months ago and she was doing wonderfully....then we went home for Christmas and it all went to pieces. Now she seems to be terrified of our grown up toilet, even with her seat on it, so I bought her own "big girl potty" and she loves to sit on it and play with the flusher, but has a meltdown every time I try and tell her to try and go. Seriously, she looks at me like I am out of my mind to even suggest that she do such a thing. AAhh!! Two year olds. She has always been a very low maintenance child, no major tantrums, etc. I think she is making up for it! Not so great timing. I have all of the patience of a 33 weeks pregnant woman, and she has all of the patience of a two year old. Not a great combination. I am trying to savor each "precious" moment with her before the new baby gets here, but who wants to savor meltdowns?
Ok....the real reason for this post was to ask for tips or suggestions on potty training. Shouldn't it really be called child training? You don't really have to train a potty to do anything....it's just there, right? My mom has given me great advice, which I can get to work sometimes so I am open to any and all suggestions!
This is how excited I wish she would get to go potty!

Well, I have not potty trained any of my own kids yet, but...I used to work at a daycare. I worked with 2 year olds, and they would have melt downs when it was time to try the "big boy/girl potty." It seemed like they would never want to go, then one day eould go all the time....when they are ready, of course everything is on their schedule. LOL
Another time I did a candy/sticker chart. Everytime they went potty they put a sticker by their name and if they went 3 times that day they got a piece of candy. They next week they had to go 4 times. And so on. I have a friend who did something simlar to the chart, and she said when her child went on the potty all day, she took her to chuck e cheese or mcdonalds to play.
I have a feeling this is long, and hopefully not a bunch of rambling nonsense.
I am not sure if this helps, but they are worth a shot...maybe!!
Well, you know that I've never potty trained anyone, but here is what I have heard and learned. Take enough time for her to just sit there for 5-10 minutes, reading books or singing songs. Make sure you give positive praise for her when she does use the potty, and still be nice when she has accidents. Since Christmas was a setback, keep in mind to not push her too hard. Just start all over again. If things go well now, when the baby comes be aware that she may fall back again when she sees you changing Emma's diapers. To quote her favorite movie "Just keep swimming, swimming, swimming..." Good Luck Sis!
I'm in the same boat right now, Aidan has 0 desire to go on the potty. I did potty train Dillan and I have been trying all the same things I did with him (a sticker chart with a big prize of his choice for completing the whole chart seemed to work best) but nothing seems to be working for Aidan. I am so sick of diapers I could scream, and I can only imagine its much more frustrating for you. Good luck!
